JAVANESE  HARDWOOD  FURNITURE

Our furniture reflects the growing movement away from the uniformity of modular fitted schemes towards a more individual, adaptable approach to home design. This is especially suited to period and country homes, using the natural beauty of real wood to provide comfort, style and personality.
.Made largely by hand in workshops across Java, our designs are drawn from local tradition, colonial styles and modern influences from all over the world

Java has an ancient tradition of fine, detailed wood carving and many pieces feature this. Much of the output comes from small family businesses and is therefore limited and exclusive to us.

As we visit Java regularly we are able to find and purchase many individual pieces, both antique and reproduction. We always have a selection of old cabinets, benches, dowry chests etc., in a variety of sizes, styles and prices.

Much of our furniture is made using old teak reclaimed from dismantled buildings, this timber has the advantage of beautiful patina acquired over decades of use. Other ranges are made from teak grown in managed plantations licensed by the Indonesian government. These plantations were originally established by Dutch colonists and there is an active replanting programme in operation. Indigenous materials such as rattan and bamboo are sometimes used for seats and tabletops.

We receive regular shipments of furniture, many pieces are one-offs, so our stock changes continually and on every visit to the shop you will discover new items. For this reason we do not produce a catalogue, the Gallery section of this site provides an impression of our current stock. We are sure you will find a personal visit rewarding.
